At Maritime Fun Group, we wish our guests, regardless of their level of ability, to have a safe and fun-filled day at each of our parks.
Wheelchair Accessibility
Shining Waters Family Fun Park is pleased to admit guests arriving in wheelchairs for free. In addition, one caregiver may enter with that guest for free. You must call to book in advance.
Shining Waters offers several wheelchair accessible restrooms. These restrooms are located at the front entrance of the park, Bandit’s Barnyard, and at the restaurant.
The main pathways at Shining Waters Family Fun Park are paved. There are two wooded areas that do not have paved paths and are uneven.
There is a wheelchair available for rent during the visit. You may reserve a wheelchair by calling the park prior to your planned day of entry. We can have it waiting at the front entrance. You may either keep it for the day, or return it to the First Aid Station in the waterpark, once you reach that area.
Access 2 Program
We have partnered with the Access 2 Program by Easter Seals Canada to allow guests of any age or disability to bring one caregiver with them to the property for free. At Shining Waters, the guest with the card would pay a special rate of $14.50 (in 2023). Please call our office to book in advance 902-963-3939. Cardholder must present the card upon arrival, and according to Access 2 policy, a barcode number, photocopy or picture of the card will not suffice. For more information on the Access 2 program, please visit their website.
Guests Unable to Ride the Rides Due to Health Reasons
Some of our rides restrict riders with pre-existing medical conditions such as neck, back or heart conditions as well as those guests who are pregnant. Guests with these conditions should call to book their passes and will be charged a medical rate ($14.50 in 2023), will receive a bracelet, and should obey the warnings posted at each particular ride once inside the park. Guests admitted at a reduced rate under this policy will not be permitted on the Cannonbowl, Crossbow, Slingshot, Catapult, or Buccaneer Bay Bullet. If in doubt, please ask a park supervisor for clarification.
Policy on Guests with Casts, Prosthesis and Orthopedic Braces in the Waterpark
Guests with prosthetic devices, orthopedic braces or missing limbs may enjoy all attractions in the waterpark provided that their particular device was designed for such an activity, that the activity will not aggravate a pre-existing injury and they are able to maintain a correct riding position.
Guests with waterproof arm casts may ride both body slides provided they are able to maintain the correct riding position. They may not ride the tube slides due to the speed and turbulent nature of the ride as well as the necessity for full grip strength and range of motion on the tube. Guests with leg casts or neck braces may not ride any of the water slides.
Guests who are excluded from park activities under this policy and self-identify to the front entrance staff will qualify for a medical rate ($14.50 in 2023).
Service Animals
Guests identifying their dog as a service animal at the front entrance are permitted entrance to the facility with their animal.
While service animals are in the park they are permitted into all guest accessible areas, except the rides, slides and pools. Service animals are permitted in all food service locations, washrooms and change rooms. Service animals are always to remain leashed and well behaved while in the facility. Those accompanied by service animals are required to clean up after the service animal at all times.
Other Restrictions
Larger or taller guests may not be able to enjoy certain attractions where the restraints are not able to be properly secured or where weight restrictions may be in effect. The Cannonbowl and Crossbow tube slides have a weight restriction of 250 pounds on the single tubes, and a 400-pound total on the double tubes between the two people. The Wharf Pedal Boats and the Galleon Pedal Boats have a weight restriction of 500 pounds per boat. For the other rides at the park, such as the Buccaneer Bay Bullet, Crazy Sub, Pumpkin Patch and Surf’s Up, the restraints must be able to engage correctly. Because bodies come in all shapes and sizes and factors such as height and weight distribution also come into play, whether the restraints can engage correctly can only be determined on site with the ride operator.

Sandspit is happy to provide many wheelchair accessible areas. All of our walkways are paved. We have accessible washrooms and eating facilities as well as protocols in place at most rides for special loading and unloading procedures for guests using wheelchairs.
Due to the inherent nature of certain amusement rides, not all rides can be accessed by a wheelchair. A few potential limitations would be the Landslide, driving the Go-karts (however can accompany as a passenger if the size of the riders permits it) and bumper cars. Elsewhere, where guests can safely ride, we do our best to accommodate.
